Extra second in 2008 throws a kink into 2009 schedule

For some reason (something about the earth spinning erratically) they (the International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service) decided in their infinite wisdom and with international concensus to add a second to the year 2008. It happened sometime between 6 and 7 pm on December 31st.
I am not one to pay much attention to what the IERRSS does simply because it usually doesn’t affect me but this time its different. In an attempt to get a jump on the coming year I had already put into place a schedule for success and with this so-called attempt to allign the earth’s spin with a couple high end atomic clocks, my plans have been sent headlong into their own erratic spin. So now as the new year begins I have to go through my calender and make the necessary corrections. I feel fortunate that I wasn’t in a car at that pivital moment when the light changes from yellow to red when the second was added.
Now as 2009 gets under way I wonder what else the IERRSS and their cronies up in Grenwich have up their sleeves. Time is money…

This is hilarious. I had no idea adjustments like this took place. Gets me thinking. Perhaps those years when you say “this year flew by” aren’t really full years. With the IERRSS changing our clocks they could just be screwing with us. We wake up after what felt like a 3 hour nap, only to realize it’s morning and time for work.
